Like to Know More About NAGPS?
The National Association of Graduate-Professional Students is a cooperative national student organization serving the interests of
- graduate- and/or professional-degree students,
- their student organizations, and
- their graduate schools.
It represents over 100 graduate student organizations, more than 50 graduate schools and over 400,000 students, and is dedicated to improving the quality of graduate and professional student life in the USA.
NAGPS is THE voice of graduate and professional
students in the United States. It is the only national organization
dedicated to representing both graduate and professional student
concerns. NAGPS works to bring graduate and professional students together to assist them in self-governance, and to represent their interests to both the public and the state and federal government. Many of NAGPS goals are
structural in nature, such as:
- building a library of documents on issues related to graduate education;
- offering low-cost health insurance to graduate and professional students;
- representing over 400,000 graduate and professional student members;
- hosting regional and national conferences to discuss dozens of topics related to postbaccalaureate education;
- providing technical assistance to students interested in forming campus graduate student organizations; and,
- developing services for graduate and professional students.
ASGS is not a part of the NAGPS organization, nor vice-versa. Although the two national organizations have a compatible purpose to support graduate students seeking their degrees, and each recognizes the benefits and values of the other, ASGS focuses exclusively on supporting and improving the thesis process, while NAGPS directs its energies toward student advocacy and GSO support.
